Week 10: 3rd quarter benchmark and circulatory system.
This week we worked on the third quarter benchmarks in science at the beginning of the week and then finished up the week in beginning to talk about the Circulatory System. I am going to be posting all of the documents for the circulatory system in Week 1 of Quarter 4 mainly because I am not grading anything on the Circulatory System with Quarter 3. The rest of the human body systems (including Circulatory) and Physics will all be under Quarter 4. Thanks! If you have questions please feel free to send me an email.

week 9: human body - respiratory wrap up and beginning circulatory system.
This week we are focusing on wrapping up the Respiratory System and giving a test on the material Wednesday (A Day) and Thursday (B Day). On Friday we will begin our discussion on the Circulatory System.

week 8: human Body - respiratory system
This week we are going to be talking about the Respiratory System. We have several activities planned that will help to make it interactive for the students as well as a power point that we will go over as well. We are going to begin this unit looking at the information about the Respiratory System including its function and organs in the body. For the Respiration power point, you will need to print out the "handout" version of it just like you did for the Reproductive System. See below for the files:

week 7: human body - homeostasis and reproductive system
This week we are going to begin our discussion on the human body systems by beginning with understanding what homeostasis does and then lead into discussing the Reproductive System. On Wednesday will be our field trip to the Zoo. Make sure to turn in your money as soon as possible if you still have not turned it in yet. On Thursday - Friday, we will begin our discussion on the Respiratory System, which will lead into the following week. I will have a printed "handout" version of the Reproductive Powerpoint that will fit into one page in your notebook. So if you missed the day we went over it in class, make sure to print off the "handout" version of the Powerpoint onto just one page and then glue it in your notebook. See below for the files:

We have begun a new concept in science called "THE BIG IDEA." On pages 24-25 in your notebook, you need to draw a light bulb that stretches over two pages. The whole point of the Big Idea is to see throughout each body system what the main points we can take away from it in how it relates to us. For example: The Reproductive System has specialized organs that are responsible for creating new life. Below is the example that I showed in class on how to draw the "BIG IDEA" in your notebook.
Below is the Homeostasis notes for page 23 in your notebook. Make sure to copy down word for word each slide. We will constantly revisit what "homeostasis" means when it is pertaining to each system in the human body.

week 5: Discussion on Twins and watched clips from gattaca
Since we had our snow days last week, we were a little bit behind schedule and started this week with the discussion on twins. I used a video on twins from Discovery Education and cannot download it onto my weebly. However, the worksheet I can put on here. We also began in the middle of the week watching clips from Gattaca. We will finish Gattaca this week and will begin to distinguish between the different types of genetics - human engineering, cloning, genetic testing in Holocaust involving twins, and genetically modified foods.

Week 4: Genetically Modified organisms (GMOs)
This week we are talking about Genetically Modified Organisms, Twins, and then ending the week looking at clips from the movie Gattaca. The video on twins that I showed in class is not able to be put on my website and so if they need to catch up in watching it, it will have to be at school. If we end up getting snow later on in the week and we end up not coming to school then this schedule will get modified a little bit. Please see below for files.

week 2 & 3: genetic disease paper slide project
Due to the snow days I decided to couple these two weeks together since we only met one day during week two. We are working on the genetic disease project that will be put into a paper slide recording. After it is all recorded, we will show it to the rest of the class and they will have to watch how the other students taught about the genetic disease.

Week 1: Pedigree Charts -> "I'm My own grandpa"
It was a short week where we focused on setting up their NEW notebooks, creating pedigree charts and drawing family trees. See below for the files. I only have a paper copy of the pedigree chart. So if you need one just come and ask me.
